Underground Railroad?

[edit]

In the lede she is listed as living at the depot of the Underground Railroad in Wellington, Kansas. This is in the 1870s. The Underground Railroad existed during the American Civil War and was not in existence in the 1870s. This needs to be clarified. She had nothing to do with the Underground Railroad she just lived there later. This fact is probably not even worth mentioning in the article. Cuprum17 (talk) 19:18, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cuprum17, I wasn't sure how to deal with the wording, so I left both instances pretty much "as is". In the lede, I used the Clapp (1900) reference, which stated: "She resided quite a long while in Wellington, Kansas after her second marriage, on a farm in the northwest part of the town which was known as the depot of the Underground Railrway, by which fugitive slaves made their way to Canada." In the body of othe article, I used the he Goodwin (1899) reference, which stated: "During her years of farm life, many fleeing slaves found shelter at the Smith farm house." Okay with me if you want to reword either and/or if you want to remove either (if you think it's not worth mentioning). --Rosiestep (talk) 19:46, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I reworded the lede slightly to clarify her circumstances. Cuprum17 (talk) 00:50, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
