Etymology
[edit]I see that there is no real consensus about the origins of the name Merv. I do not have an answer, but I do have an observation which I hope may stimulate thinking: Cyrus the Great had a son who was a Pharaoh variously called Bardiya and "Smerdis" - and this name is represented in old British mythology as "Smervie". My instinct says that there could be a connection, but I am not sure what it might be. Freuchie (talk) 07:11, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
