Sanjay Gandhi
The company's website say that it was incorporated in 1980. However till today Sanjay Gandhi is remembered for his contribution and (some people say it misuse / Corruption) to Maruti. Can someone please contribute as to what was the name of the company when Sanjay Gandhi initiated the project and also any other information also. --Aravind Parvatikar 07:08, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Maruti Udyog
1981 is the date when Maruti Udyog was incorporated as a company in India. It was formed more than ten year before in 1971. Also can someone tell me what the difference between Maruti Suzuki and Maruti udyog
hydkat 05:40, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
- Caution: I may be wrong I dont have any source to quote
- I believe that Maruti Suzuki is the brand name of the company. After the government diluted its stake the Suzuki logo started appearing on the grill. If you can see a old Maruti 800 or Maruti 1000 or even esteem it doesn’t have the Suzuki logo but instead carries simple Maruti logo. The company is listed as ‘’’Maruti Ugyog Limited’’’ on the stock exchanges.
- As far as the name of the company is concerned, I was unable to find its previous avtaar. But yes, if you see any of the articles related to Maruti, Sanjay Gandhi is always remembered. I hope someone will add information about that aswell.--Aravind Parvatikar 13:51, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- About Sanjay Gandhi's We did mention this in the history section... what else should we add?
- hydkat 15:07, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well I mean the name of the company, who was the chairman and how the allegations came up...
- --Aravind Parvatikar 15:42, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- The real reason maruti became a government company was to bail him out of financial difficulties as a lot of people invested thier money in him and his schemes. But I'm pretty certain we can't put that in :)
both are the same when suzuki increased its stake it renamed it as maruti suzuki lmt — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.193.216.36 (talk) 15:42, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

I thought of expanding the article on the weekend and I find today that all that I wanted to add has been added, and in a much better way than I could. Great work!! I still managed to add a bit about the customer ratings in the impact section. This appears to be one of the best COTWs in recent times. --Gurubrahma 14:06, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Claims of goons
I do not see support in NYT article cited for 'hiring of goons.' Which para?
This is welcomed, but per WP:V and WP:NPOV, this must be properly sourced and the article should summarize the controversy/dispute, but not engage in it. I urge we present comments from all parties including the management. ApostleVonColorado (talk) 22:24, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
- Bouncer - A person employed by an establishment to prevent others from entering or to eject them from a premise.
- Goon - A bully or thug hired to terrorize or do away with opposition.
- Just some definitions to help us keep this article WP:NPOV, ApostleVonColorado (talk) 22:32, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
- Tough guys hired by a company to oppose union workers are historically called goons, see Goon squad. User:Fred Bauder Talk 23:23, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
- Bouncers in another part of the world may or may not be goon squad of American history. The NYT article uses the term bouncer, not goon. Please explain why switching the term isn't violating wiki's WP:NOR and WP:SYNTH guidelines? ApostleVonColorado (talk) 23:59, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
- A bouncer is a tough guy employed by a bar or club; a goon is a tough guy employed by an employer or a detective agency such as the Pinkertons, although the term "union goon" is in use by anti-union propagandists. It is part of the specialized language associated with union issues. It is not a neologism nor is it original research. User:Fred Bauder Talk 00:16, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- I notice the authors of The New York Times articles have Indian names; perhaps bouncer has a slightly different connotation in Indian English, or perhaps goon is not used outside the United States. We should use Indian English in this article, although it should be understandable to international union activists, perhaps this [[Goon squad|bouncers]] would serve. User:Fred Bauder Talk 00:21, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. Yes, we should stick with Indian English. On rest, per WP:TPG guidelines, allow me to skip where I disagree and agree with you, as this is not a forum. Wiki's WP:NOR guidelines are: to demonstrate that you are not adding OR, you must be able to cite reliable, published sources that are directly related to the topic of the article, and directly support the material being presented. Therefore, to demonstrate that we are not adding OR, we need to provide a reliable, published source that directly supports the use of term goon. For now, as you suggest, let us use Indian English. ApostleVonColorado (talk) 00:34, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- No pipe though, to avoid OR; unless we can find a reliable, published source that directly supports the link between Indian English bouncers and American goon squad. I am trying to help you find support. ApostleVonColorado (talk) 00:42, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- The New York Times article is a suitable source. All we are talking about here is synonyms. User:Fred Bauder Talk 01:25, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

"Bouncer" appears in Indian English to be a synonym for a security guard, see http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-04-16/news-interviews/31349129_1_bouncers-police-station-photographers Use of "bouncer" in the New York Times article simply seems to be an incidental use of Indian English in an American newspaper. However, the appropriate Wikipedia article is goon squad. Pinkerton agents used in union busting in the United States were and are called security guards. User:Fred Bauder Talk 01:32, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- This is a Japanese-Indian company, the story is in Indian English. Either or both with a culture and a lingo that can easily be lost in translation. Pinkerton may or may not be equivalent to Maneswar. For this article, we need a reliable source for the equivalence you claim, or direct support. I have searched, haven't found a reliable source yet. The other issue to avoid is WP:SYNTH; that is, synthesize the equivalence from usage in two different contexts, assuming we are able to find two such contexts. As soon as you, I or someone finds a non-synth, non-OR reliable source with direct support, I will support the change. ApostleVonColorado (talk) 02:35, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- Well, it's a criminal case; the claim of self-defense will come out in the trial, or not. We need some followup coverage. User:Fred Bauder Talk 05:03, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- The subject has been discussed at length. Use of an idiomatic expression from Indian English to avoid linking to a relevant existing Wikipedia article is inappropriate. User:Fred Bauder Talk 12:41, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- It is not a relevant existing wiki article without support, but WP:OR for reasons explained above. There are articles on security guard and goon - why pick the latter? My preference is not to use either, because we do not have adequate support. ApostleVonColorado (talk) 12:50, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Bias
Coverage of the riot is biased in favor of the Indian government and the Japanese multinational that are the owners of the plant. What happened at that plant that so infuriated their workers that they beat their bosses with iron rods? I've been in a union. When I was both I and many of the other workers owned guns, and carried them while working. We had trouble with our bosses, but when we did we went on strike; we didn't kill the management. What's going on? User:Fred Bauder Talk 15:02, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Per WP:TPG guidelines, let us keep this talk page focussed on improving this article. On bias, here is an example: the claimed pay of $126 per month for entry level contract worker. Indian labour laws mandates, and companies like Maruti Suzuki pay, host of add ons on the base pay, easily more than doubling the take home - in a country where 60%+ live on less than $2 per day. On top of that larger take home, Maruti and other companies routinely pay hefty festival bonuses to all workers, see for example: http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2007-11-11/news/27678740_1_diwali-bonus-maruti-udyog-employees
- We cannot include all this, in this developing story, without WP:SYNTH, WP:OR and WP:UNDUE. The best we can and should do is to summarize content per WP:VNT, from sources consistent with WP:RS guidelines. ApostleVonColorado (talk) 18:18, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Throwing a bunch of Wikipedia jargon out doesn't remedy a biased article. User:Fred Bauder Talk 19:30, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Possibly, according to section 25C, of http://pblabour.gov.in/pdf/acts_rules/inustrial_disputes_act_1947.pdf compensation to laid-off workmen would by only 50% of their usual pay, and perhaps, if included in the union agreement, only for 45 days. User:Fred Bauder Talk 20:10, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Merger
I merged the seldom visited Timeline of Maruti Suzuki page into this article and turned it into prose, hope that this doesn't bother anyone. I chose to remove a whole lot of detail on when the EXi and LXi models af various cars were introduced, focusing instead on more major introductions. From 2005 until 2012 there is little written, please help and expand this portion! Thanks, Mr.choppers | ✎ 04:49, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
Transliteration/transcription/romanization
It's always disorienting/annoying to me when there's text in a foreign script without an accompanying romanization: otherwise, the information is meaningless to people who don't speak that language (it's just a bunch of unintelligible squiggles as far as they're concerned). Could someone who speaks Hindi please put a transliteration/romanization of the Hindi text in the article next to each instance? Thanks! Lockesdonkey (talk) 21:42, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Merge of Nexa marketing gimmick
The NEXA marketing gimmick fails WP:CORP as a stand alone article and should be merged here. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:54, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- I do not think, at the present condition, this article fails or violets any terms. It is notable, moreover, with reliable sources added to it. It can stand as a standalone itself, if others review the sources. It is not at all promotional in the present condition! Edito Freak (talk) 05:06, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- "If a company is notable, information on its products and services should generally be included in the article on the company itself, unless the company article is so large that this would make the article unwieldy." there is little to say about the product and this article, less the gratuitous pics and the unsourced claims, can easily hold the content, particularly the content that is not merely regurgitated press release. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 05:16, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

==Rating on 30 October 2006== This article has been rated B-Class on quality scale, though it is not far from A-class. The main issues holding back this article are disproportionate weightage to various sections and language flow. As an additional comment, the references need to be standardize according to one of the available standards. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 19:06, 30 October 2006 (UTC) |

Proposed merge of Suzuki Motor Gujarat into Maruti Suzuki
The entity belongs to the same group. just a different plant location Hatchens (talk) 06:10, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
Suzuki Motor Gujarat did not belong to Maruti Suzuki, instead it is wholly owned by Suzuki. Besides, it is not uncommon that a manufacturing plant has a separate wiki article with the holding company (ex: Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky among other plants with Toyota Motor North America).
