Misc
[edit]I added a "citation needed" to Maru's proposed breed type (Scottish Fold). There are a lot of references to him being an American Shorthair. Clockwork (talk) 00:25, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
It says he's a Scottish Fold on his blog - http://sisinmaru.blog17.fc2.com/ - but if wikipedia's article on the Scottish Fold is correct he can't be one, his ears look normal. Scatterkeir (talk) 20:57, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
The fold in the ears is a genetic trait--Maru didn't get a dominant gene for it, but he's a Scottish Fold nonetheless.Mwillia9 (talk) 19:46, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Maru and Wimax campaign
[edit]I have visited japan this summer and I am very suprised to see that Maru is the "spoke person" for a wimax campaign in japan. you can see in this picture I have found (though, I have seen Maru pictures in tokyo at Bic Camera, Labi and Sofmap stores in the whole city) : http://www.flickr.com/photos/ryanhageman/4600523361/ PS: you can see that it's writen "can I get inside?" under Maru's picture —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.34.53.5 (talk) 15:54, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- It's hard to put in the article, but this suggests that Maru was the first cat to be successfully monetised with the internet while it was still alive. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 17:12, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
Scottish Fold?
[edit]Why does this article say he's a Scottish Fold? Check the pictures and videos. Original research I know, but I seriously doubt the SF claim is cited anywhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.92.100.206 (talk) 22:07, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Because the owner says so. Check the website.--Oneiros (talk) 22:13, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Not all SF cats have the folded ear. The trait is only semi dominant. Check the wikilink in the lede of the article for more info. Or google the breed. This is pretty common knowledge in the sense that it is documented on just about any notable site that gives information on the breed. Millahnna (talk) 10:03, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Sex
[edit]I notice that Maru is a tortoiseshell. Doesn't this make it unlikely that he's actually male, since male tortoiseshells are so rare? Have reliable sources said anything about this that we can cite in the article? —Saric (Talk) 22:32, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- also do we know the gender of Maru's owner for sure? Bouket (talk) 00:28, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- This USA Today article refers to mugumogu as female, and Maru as male: http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/story/2011-08-22/Maru-the-cats-meow-of-YouTube-stars-in-a-new-book/50099132/1 Not sure where they got that info, but they did ask her some questions, so maybe they asked her that too. - carolyn81 (user • talk) 20:21, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
- Wait, Maru isn't a tortoiseshell, just a regular tabby. Apparently I thought they were the same thing. —Saric (Talk) 00:22, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

I added the book cover of his book which is covered under fair use, and cleaned up the article a bit. Not sure if I did the image correct but I tried :) Geek4gurl (talk) 22:08, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
