Philanthropy

What about her work with the YWCA of Nashville (is it Nashville or Tennessee)? She has an auction every year of personal items donated by country music stars... Story goes that Faith Hill didn't have time to find something to donate so at the last minute she offered dinner with herself and Tim McGraw. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 59.101.94.15 (talk) 15:24:36, August 19, 2007 (UTC) If you want, you can add something about it in the main article. I might look up something later and add it in. (HowIFeel 07:50, 27 August 2007 (UTC)) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Happychick13 (talkcontribs)

Her faith

My impression is her Christian faith is a big thing in her life. Shouldn't this be mentioned? I am not knowledgeable enough about her faith to write anything, but maybe someone could put something up? 75.26.174.6 08:25, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I know what you mean. But Martina has never actually talked about it. She sings about God but I've yet to have read an article on her faith so I don't think we can put it in as it would be making assumptions about her religion. Unless someone has something? German ancestry

Does anyone have a source that she's of significant German ancestry? I've removed the category until someone provides one. JackO'Lantern 05:13, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Her father's paternal grandparents were first generation German-Americans from Iowa. The rest of her lineage is mostly British (maybe some Flemish too).

She is a direct descendant of the Delano family and also of an original passenger on the Mayflower. This, according to the Wikipedia entry on the Delano family: "Jonathan married Mercy Warren, granddaughter of Mayflower passenger Richard Warren; among their direct descendants are the author Laura Ingalls Wilder, President Ulysses S. Grant, President Calvin Coolidge, anthropologist Robert Redfield, astronaut Alan B. Shepard, entertainer Martina McBride and the poet Conrad Potter Aiken." She has some very interesting family members. All mentioned have Wikipedia entries. --Traumatic (talk) 09:20, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Necessary?

Is it necessary to include an entire header for the American Idol appearance and then have one line of information? User:68.192.178.201 22:14, 19 April 2007

Just 1 adjective over the line of POV?

I can see how you could state her voice as a "strong soprano" but "strong and pure soprano"? Don't get me wrong, I totally love Martina and think her voice is amazing, but I think strong does it just well. Pure seemed just a tiny bit POV to me...but maybe that's just my point of view speaking, LOL. If no one has a problem with it, I'm going to remove "pure," as it does make it seem just a tad POV. -WikiFiend90 06:25, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

I'd also question whether she is, in fact, a soprano. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.104.80.200 (talk) 18:20, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

She made an appearance on Home Makeover: Home Edition, throwing a benefit concert in Kansas for a family that lost their house. The episode is called "The Nutsch Family Series". --Stephane Charette 22:29, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

"Purple Envelope Story" section unfinished

The "Purple Envelope Story" section ends with "Two weeks later, June 2, 1992, she did her first opening gig for Garth Brooks in" and no further information is provided. I don't know if this information was removed, or if the section was simply never completed. According to her website (the link is located at http://www.martina-mcbride.com/faq.shtml#9) this was in Denver Colorado, and I am editing it accordingly. Paedraggaidin 19:04, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Waking up laughing

Has the album actually gone gold yet? There is no source for it, yet it says on this page, it's gold. (HowIFeel 01:20, 12 August 2007 (UTC))

The album has been certified Gold, in the US, it debut at #4 on the pop charts, and #2 on the country charts. Worldwide sales are 588k. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.30.123.31 (talk) 19:18, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Fansite

There's too much praise here -- as well as too much POV stuff such as "surprisingly" and "loved it". Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 05:49, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

I got rid of all the praise, so I removed the tag. Dottiewest1fan (talk) 19:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Voice

She`s a soprano: http://www.cmt.com/news/country-music/1457373/mcbrides-soprano-saves-ryman-show.jhtml —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.218.178.60 (talk) 00:57, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Place of birth

The article says that Martina was born in Medicine Lodge and Sharon. The two are about 10 miles apart. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.33.49 (talk) 11:42, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Removed Non-NPOV "Round Up" Section

I removed the entire section, "Round Up" which is obviously written by a fan who has NO idea what Wikipedia is for. It's just unfettered praise that is COMPLETELY anti-NPOV guidelines. This is not a fansite, it is an encyclopedic article. This is the text I removed:

"McBride has clearly proven that she is worthy of the records she has shattered and the unique place for her in country music. With over 10 Female Vocalist awards received over all, and being named the top Country Grossing Act in 2007, she has set records, and paved the way for many (to-come) country stars. With over 22 million albums sold worldwide she has proved she is deserving of the name the Queen of Country between 1997–2006, and is still being nominated for many awards around the world. Being named "one of the finest voices in the world," and "the always stunning Martina McBride," she has succeeded more than was excpected by a farm girl from Sharon, Kansas."

What fool thought that was acceptable on Wikipedia? HillbillyProfane (talk) 09:19, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Removed strange praise in 'Family Section'

"In 2000, Martina and her family received the Family Award, for their continuous contribution to their family, and setting a great example to other growing families."

What the hell is the 'Family Award'? Who gave the 'Family Award'? Why would you get an award for 'contributing' to your own family? Whose to say she and her family is a 'great example'? This line has no sources, which leads me to believe it was just made up by an adoring fan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.169.163.145 (talk) 03:01, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Evolution was her breakthrough?

I thought it was her second album "The Way That I Am", which had "Independence Day", the song that brought her to stardom. She had long been a star before 1997. Just asking for clarity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.229.180.207 (talk) 02:43, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Picture

Can we find a better picture for her? She is a beautiful woman and this pic does her no justice at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.188.120.234 (talk) 20:15, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Work with Dawayne Bailey (Chicago, Bob Seger guitarist)

"Martina McBride was a background singer in my band called Private Parts in 1986, the year that CHICAGO hired me. I have video of our live performances together. We were both living in Wichita, KS at the time. I hired her to sing backing vocals in my band as she was the best in town. Her name then was Martina Schiff. She married our main sound technician named John McBride. They left Wichita and moved to Nashville, I quit Private Parts and moved back to LA to join CHICAGO."
