What are the sources to prove that Heron is Irish? Heron sounds a lot more French to me, as it is the French name for a swamp (freshwater and coastal) bird. In French genealogy sources, it is said to have been originally given as a nickname for a person with long legs. Où sont vos sources d'information? I found a candidate for the alleged patent: GB189824751A, which is to be found under the search term "inventor:Heron before:priority:19000101". Candidate because it's from 1898, relates to alcoholic beverages and the inventor's family name is "Heron"; however, it's not a US patent and the inventor is not M. W.
