Timeline

[edit]

The reading of the source A Naval Biographical Dictionary by William Richard O'Byrne can be very confusing for dates especially 1800-1806. As far as I make it out It's per the following list .. Might have to transfer this to a workbook:

  • 1793, on board the Medusa 50, (Capt. Jas. Norman), @ Pompey
  • 6 November 1794: Alexander (74-Gun) 4,
  • 12 December 1800: To Pylades (18 Gun) and made up to Lieutenant (Capt. Jas. Booder) - North Sea
  • 21 July 1802: Alcméne frigate (Capt. John Stiles) - Troop conveyencing
  • - Next - : Pygmy Cutter (In command?) - French ports near Chausey
  • 16 March 1804: Queen (98 Gun) (Capt. Theophilius Jones) @ Pompey
  • 6 April (following?1805) Sandwich Lugger (as commander under Sir Wm. Sidney Smith) = Ostend and Flushing
  • 28 September (following?1805) Manly gun-rig (in command) - Off Boulougne, North Sea, (then Baltic)
  • Jan 1806 Manly run ashore
  • 11 June 1806 (Jackdaw Schooner) - Sheerness and Spithead.
  • 26 September 1806 (Made rank of Commander)
  • 27 November 1806: Weymouth Store ship
  • 15 September 1808: (Vulture): Jersey Guardship
  • August 1812: Fox
  • January 1817: Shamrock

I think the above is correct but will change in line if necessary. In particular but a quick read says 11 June 1806 for the Sandwich Cutter but this could likely be a punctuation error.
