Court case

[edit]

I'm doing some work on the list of organists and checked this linked. I discovered that Neary had been dismissed from the Abbey for "gross misconduct" and that despite an appeal, the dismissal was deemed appropriate.

While the writer of the article might feel some delicacy about discussing the dismissal of a living person, the fact is that a great many sudden dismissals and sideways movements have come about as the result of "gross misconduct" of a different sort. I felt that the article needed to make it clear that the stated misconduct related to finances, not to sexual misconduct, simply because the latter is hanging over the church and individuals within it like a spectre. It would be too easy to misinterpret the non-specific wording. This would malign the subject of the article far more than stating simply the facts as published i.e. that it was a matter of finance.
