Category Jewish-American conservatism
[edit]I removed this category. --Tom 15:45, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Category American Jews
[edit]Threeafterthree: I have reverted your repeated reversions of the category above for the following.
1. In looking at the history page, I see that you noted at 19:37, 19 September 2008, in one of your reversions of another editor that "Per categories, please don't add this since it is not made mention of in the body of the article". Could you quote directly the part of WP:CAT which describes this? Thank you.
2. If there is such a guideline, I would note that another category included in Dr. Feldstein's article is "Fellows of the Econometric Society," yet there is no mention of this in the article (or source, I believe). And yet another is "Eli Lilly and Company," though there is no mention of this in the article (or source, so far as I can tell) either. So if I understand your contention rightly, why would the standard here be different? And if not, may I ask why you have not been as adamant and vigorous in reverting the addition of these categories?
3. I also note from the history that you have reverted almost immediately an addition of the same category, coincidentally in a row by three different editors (I presume unknown to each other, at least in my case), which is in violation of the Three-Revert Rule WP:3RR, and I would ask that you not do it again.
4. As to my understanding for your need of an inclusion of Dr. Feldstein's ethnicity in the body of the article (to complement said category), you are welcome to make such an addition, though I believe any such wording which does not amplify the simple category is superfluous and, in this case, possibly inappropriate. Do you not agree?
5. You've not used as basis for your repeated reversions relevancy, but let me write to that anyway: Dr. Feldstein is now a public figure who has appeared in a number of interviews (which I suppose explains the coincidental category addition by several editors including me) and, more importantly, is an advisor to Sen. John McCain.
6. Whether people should be categorized in the aforementioned way--or for example by the categories African Americans, Greek Orthodox Christians, American Roman Catholics, or any of a myriad others--is a worthy debate. I tend to side with those who perfer disclosure, particularly as it relates to public figures. But again, I believe I understand this is not your issue.

- If an individual's religion or sexual preference or ethnicity is not covered and properly cited in the article, it is just best not to include them in that category. Is there a specific reason for including their religion when it hasn't been covered in the bio? Just leave it out unless there is some good reason for it and it had been properly sourced and is relevant. Anyways, --Tom 13:24, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
