LA Sentinel has a wealth of information about the Marlton Square development project over the years.

Would be good to change those references from high beam to the actual articles highbeam references. The LA Sentinel archives are free. Not sure about the others.
A little more cited explanation of why the redevelopment broke down would be good.

Here's some rumors I've heard that need citations/fact checking before they go into the article:

Magic Johnson's redevelopment agency wanted it. ^[1], but negotiations with Wal-mart and Home Depot fell through ^[2]. However, there's a walmart on the next block in the Baldwin Hills shopping center.
Magic Johnson's had a falling out with then councilmember senator Mark Ridley-Thomas over an NFL team returning to the Collisium
Ridley Thomas gave the deal to Chris Hammond of Capital Vision Equities who was a friend of his.
CVE had outstanding debt, law suits and unpaid contractors before they were selected.
