- In a Polish comedy called Obywatel Piszczyk, it is said that the name Marlena was formed after Marx and Lenin; and that it was given to children of the most zealous communists. Not sure if this is true or not - the Polish wiki states it, but without sources (not even the film).
- It says it comes from MARia and magdaLENE, and it also says it means "free one", but it can't be both at the same time, so that is a contradiction. http://www.sheknows.com/baby-names/name/marlene has more ideas. The oldest Marlene on your list is Marlene Dietrich, so all of the other Marlenes could be named after Dietrich, excluding Marlene Neubauer-Woerner (Dietrich wasn't famous in 1918). Marlene Dietrich's article says she invented the name herself, from her real name Maria Magdalene. 2601:8:B500:862:F878:42A4:9CC3:BFBE (talk) 16:45, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
