Conflict of Interest?

It's apparent from recent edits to this article that some editors may have a conflict of interest with regards to Marketwire. The detailed list of product offerings and internal links to the Marketwire site seem to be evidence of this. I'd encourage any Marketwire employees or associated parties who edit this article to first review the aforementioned guidelines (and those on neutral point of view. Hi - I have done some of the recent edits to Marketwire and do have a direct relationship to Marketwire. I'm not intentionally trying to hide it since, correctly me if I'm wrong, but Wikipedia says to use caution but doesn't disclude those with COI from edits. Marketwire's page has been in existence with very few contributions including from yourself so a logo and company history including a major contribution to the Media world with its Media List. You seem to know a great deal about wire services so I would also question your neutrality - you seem to have some knowledge beyond an editor. I have made every attempt to be neutral in what is included on the page trying to think what are the main things I would want to see regarding any company in an encyclopedia. Although competitor pages such as Business Wire and CNW haven't received any edit that include bulleted product lists why should that disclude them from being incorporated on Marketwire's page? Many companies such as List of Dell Products, Google and Yahoo include such lists and I haven't seen your edits removing that content so why your focus has been directly only to this page makes me, again, question your neutrality. Please enumerate the pages where you have made similar edits. I did edits based on "what are the important points about Marketwire that anyone would want to know" and we offer products and services that I thought would be useful to enumerate. --MelaniePedia (talk) 18:30, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

To clarify, Wikipedia's conflict of interest page recommends that those with COI's should "avoid, or exercise great caution" in editing articles relating to them. Wikipedia references this disclosure as an example of how to behave regarding articles you have an interest in. I run a marketing consultancy, and regularly make use of wire services. Hence, my interest in them. I've kept a close eye on this article because it's been the subject of marketing-speak in the past. I think a short, written summary of Marketwire's products and services is a legitimate and appropriate approach. A lengthy, bulleted list looks like an advertisement for Marketwire's services. List of Products and Services Offering

The aforementioned possible conflict of interest notwithstanding, it's inappropriate to include a laundry list of services for a company in Wikipedia. The descriptive text adequately describes what the company does. It might be expanded slightly, but should not feature a lengthy, bulleted list offering all of the company's offering. This is common practice on Wikipedia. I encourage editors to review similar companies (this seems like a good exampleand see how consensus has been reached on describing them. As per my above comment, I've expanded the section to provide an adequate, neutral description of what Marketwire offers.
