WHY?

Why would an article about the marketing mix want to include a section on digital media? Surely, commentary about digital media would be better placed in one of the proliferation of articles devoted to interactive and digital media, for example (to mention just a few): Advertising management; Advertising media selection; Integrated marketing communications; Marketing communications; Media planning; Mass media; Promotion; Promotional mix; Digital media; Digital marketing; Digital promotion; Interactive media; Online advertising; Mobile marketing; Search engine marketing.

This article is not an excuse to discuss any model that uses the letters of the alphabet as a framework; rather it is an article dedicated to the marketing management framework, which just happens to be organised around the 4 Ps. Marketers may use digital media as part of their advertising and promotion effort, but marketers are not normally responsible for designing digital media platforms.
