COI request

[edit]

Hi, I'm Raffaella. I have changes to help improve this article. Disclosure: I have a WP:COI as I work in media relations at Mr. Weinberger's company EY. To get started with some hopefully simple and non-controversial updates, I've put together a list of minor edits to fix a few inaccuracies and some changes to standardize this article compared with other Wikipedia biographies.

Introduction
Starting at the top, currently the article's introduction misstates Mr. Weinberger's title and the name of the company. Per the main article, Ernst & Young was renamed to EY in 2013 and Weinberger is its global chairman and CEO. Below is my new suggested wording:

Introduction
Mark A. Weinberger (born July 28, 1961) is an American businessman.[1][2][3] He is the global chairman and CEO of EY, formerly known as Ernst & Young.[1][2][3]

We could improve the infobox by adding the years in which Mr. Weinberger graduated from the schools listed under Alma mater and correcting his title at EY to "Global Chairman and CEO".

Section titles

Lastly, I have some new suggested section titles for this article to improve its organization. As a biography of a living person, it seems redundant to have a section titled Biography, so I suggest we delete the Biography heading and make each of the subheadings a top level heading, as follows:

  • Early life and education
  • Career
  • Personal life

In addition to the above edits, I am working on getting a photo and will be back with that soon. Reach out to me here if you have questions. Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 16:56, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done. You might get faster attention if you use {{Request edit}}, though there's usually a backlog. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 19:07, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
NinjaRobotPirate: Thank you for fielding this request so quickly! Are you able to change "chairman" in the infobox and introduction to "global chairman", as that is Mark Weinberger's official title? Also, thanks for telling me about {{Request edit}}. I will be sure to use that on my other requests! Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 14:28, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'll do that. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 14:34, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
NinjaRobotPirate: Thank you again for taking care of this so quickly! I am working on uploading a photo that can be used and I will be back with another request soon. I have an additional small request which probably can be processed very easily. Are you able to remove the reference to "runs track" at the end of the personal life section? That reference is no longer valid and no longer supported by the mentioned external source. Thanks again RS at EY (talk) 21:02, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't look like any of the activities are supported by the source any more. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 21:25, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
NinjaRobotPirate: I support deleting anything not verified by the source. Also, would you update the "Retrieved" date in the citation? The EY biography has been updated since the original 2013 retrieved date, so it seems more accurate to add the current date to reflect when it was most recently checked. Thanks again for helping with this.RS at EY (talk) 14:21, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
NinjaRobotPirate: I see you’ve removed the unverifiable details and updated the retrieval date of the EY biography. Thank you for working with me to update these last few details. As I mentioned earlier, I will be returning soon with more updates, starting with a new photo for the infobox and hope I can ask for your help again. Thank you again for your assistance. RS at EY (talk) 09:26, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Photo request

[edit]

Hi, I uploaded a photo of Mr. Weinberger to Wikimedia Commons. The file name is File:Mark Weinberger at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year 2016.png. Can an editor place the photo in the infobox? I have a WP:COI so I do not edit directly.

NinjaRobotPirate: Since you helped me with my prior request, I want to make you aware of this request as well.

Justlettersandnumbers: I notice you have taken issue with the number of primary sources used in this article. Please know that I am working on updating this article with new sourcing that is appropriate for Wikipedia. I am happy to have you take a look once those updates are ready for review.

Reach out to me here if you have questions. Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 17:14, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I added the pic. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 17:21, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And I've nominated it for deletion. RS at EY, you'll need to arrange for the photographer to send suitable permission for the use of that image to OTRS, or alternatively to confirm how copyright ownership was transferred. The easiest way is probably for him/her to click the blue button at Commons:Email templates. There's quite a backlog for image permissions, so you may need to exercise some patience (well, quite a lot of patience, maybe). Please don't worry if the image gets deleted in the meanwhile – even if it does, it is merely hidden, not lost, and can be restored by a Commons admin. All this, of course, is for the protection of copyright owners, as I'm sure you'll appreciate. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:40, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
NinjaRobotPirate: The photo had been deleted from the page because an editor had questioned if EY had permission to use it. I have since sent the permission to OTRS and the photo (File:Mark Weinberger at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year 2016.png) has been restored to Wikimedia Commons. Can you place the photo in the infobox again? Reach out to me here if you have questions.
Also, in case you did not see, when I asked the editor in the request below to reconsider his change of EY to Ernst & Young, he said he did not care. Would it be OK for you to change it back to EY, formerly known as Ernst & Young? Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 15:56, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edit in intro

[edit]

Hi, editors. Justlettersandnumbers recently edited the introduction to say that Mr. Weinberger is the global chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young. It is more accurate the way the article previously stated that Mr. Weinberger is global chairman and CEO of EY, formerly known as Ernst & Young. While it is true that some still refer to the company as Ernst & Young, there are many sources that use the correct name, among them: Financial Times,Fortune, Bloomberg, and Politico. I am also pinging NinjaRobotPirate, who has helped update this article recently. I'm interested to read others' thoughts on this. Thank you. RS at EY (talk) 19:47, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I really don't care too much or indeed at all, nor can I see that this is any more than completely trivial. But just out of curiosity, do you think people try to pronounce EY as "ee, why?", as in "ee, why wud 'e do that?", or as "eh?", as in "eh? what?"? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:02, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
NinjaRobotPirate: The editor who made the change says that he doesn’t care, so in that case, would it be OK for you to change it back to EY, formerly known as Ernst & Young? Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 22:23, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Altamel (talk) 02:37, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Altamel. Thank you for making the edit to the intro!
Can you also consider adding File:Mark Weinberger at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year 2016.png? The photo was deleted previously because another editor had a question about the permission. I sent the permission to OTRS, which was reviewed and approved.
Reach out to me here if you have questions. Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 22:19, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Done, thanks for the image donation. Altamel (talk) 23:08, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Altamel: Thank you for posting the photo. RS at EY (talk) 13:48, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New draft request

[edit]

Hi, I created a draft in my user space to improve this page. Can an editor review my draft and move it into the article mainspace should it meet Wikipedia's WP:VERIFY and WP:NPOV rules? Disclosure: I have a WP:COI as I work in media relations at Mr. Weinberger's company EY. My recent edit requests for this article appear above, where I worked with Wikipedia volunteers to update the introduction and infobox. Here's what you'll see in my rewrite of the entire article:

  • The intro has been rewritten to include Mr. Weinberger's public-sector roles in Washington, D.C.
  • The draft expands on the Early life and education provides some extra detail and proper sourcing
  • Career expands on Mr. Weinberger's career, both with EY and in Washington, and adds citations where lacking in the existing article
  • The draft includes some of Mr. Weinberger's high-profile honors and recognition
  • The External links section in the draft includes additional links.

Please let me know if you prefer to review this article at once, or piece-by-piece. The article is currently marked {{third party}} because it relies too much on primary sources. It is my hope that my draft fixes that. Reach out to me here if you have questions. Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 14:13, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Altamel: Are you interested in reviewing this edit request? I have reached out to editors at the Biography and Business WikiProjects, yet no one has responded. Reach out to me if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 12:19, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Dormskirk: Since you have made a considerable number of edits to the EY page (Ernst & Young), are you interested in also reviewing this edit request for EY's CEO?
K3vinvmp: You have also edited this page and the page for EY. Is there any interest in reviewing this edit request as well? Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 08:49, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Good drafting. Dormskirk (talk) 20:05, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Dormskirk. Thank you for updating this article. This request is complete. RS at EY (talk) 17:14, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dormskirk, RS at EY, I'm sorry, but I have undone the recent over-write of the article. Our instructions on this sort of thing are quite clear. The first one reads: "Do not insert major re-writes or controversial requests without clear consensus. When these are requested, ask the submitter to discuss the edits instead with regular contributors on the article's talk page. You can use {{edit COI|D|D}}". I've altered the status of the edit request accordingly, in the hope that some discussion may actually take place. I think it's needed.

Dormskirk, may I just remind you that if any of us does over-write a page with new text like that, we need to provide copyright attribution? There's a sample edit summary in the sixth instruction for reviewers.

RS at EY, may I just remind you that this is an encyclopaedia, not a platform for promoting your interests or those of your employer? A sentence such as "Under Weinberger's leadership, EY announced in October 2015 its fastest growth since 2008", with its weaselly implication that this was through some merit of Weinberger's (which of course it may well have been, and equally well may not have been) may be acceptable in a company press-release, but has absolutely no place here. Also, Wikipedia articles need to be written in clear and comprehensible English, so we don't write stuff like "EY's global vice chair—tax and Americas vice chair—tax". Sorry! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:18, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dormskirk: I'm sure you've seen by now that Justlettersandnumbers reverted your edits to this article.
Justlettersandnumbers: You say that some discussion is needed before any edits can be made. That's perfectly fine with me. As you can see from this request and my contributions, showing that I’ve reached out in multiple relevant places since March (including messages on WikiProject Biography, WikiProject Business, WikiProject Companies and pings to several editors who have contributed to this article recently), I have been active in trying to seek discussion. To make editors aware that discussion is still needed: can you remove denied request template so the request appears in the edit request queue again?
As for the tone of the article, I'm not trying to make it promotional, but more comprehensive than what is in the article now. If you or any other editors think that sentences about company growth under Mr. Weinberger's tenure as CEO comes off as "weaselly", then I can remove it from my draft. If editors think job titles are not clear, I can rewrite that, too. As you'll recall from our discussion about the photo of Mr. Weinberger, I'm more than willing to discuss and resolve issues. Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 05:14, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure what is going on here but I have reviewed the proposed text in good faith, concluded that it was well written and well cited and incorporated the proposed text. I now find that Justlettersandnumbers has reverted my edit to a version that is littered with citation requests and is clearly of a very poor standard. I agree that there were some "weaselly" words in the proposed text but these could easily have been edited. It is not controversial that the proposed text was a massive improvement on what is there now. I look forward to the discussion on what was wrong with the fully cited text. Dormskirk (talk) 20:01, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Dormskirk and Justlettersandnumbers. What are the next steps here? Thanks, RS at EY (talk) 20:29, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - Justlettersandnumbers needs to give you a list of changes to your text to meet wikipedia's guidelines. If he does not do so in the next few days I would be content to restore the text you drafted. Dormskirk (talk) 20:40, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - I have now restored the text you drafted. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 22:06, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Dormskirk: Thank you again for updating this article. RS at EY (talk) 18:41, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
