Proposed Additions or Edits

[edit]

I do not know who created this page for me, but it has been on Wikipedia for a long time. As originally written, most of the information was taken from my personal website at http://markturner.org or websites created by my university. I learn that over the years, Wikipedia has moved toward monitoring such sites, emphasizing the need for citations to third-party verification of everything on the page. I note that some editors are beginning to add such citations to the page. When I added some myself, the page was flagged with a conflict-of-interest alert, and the editor who did so kindly apprised me of the fact that accepted procedure would be for the subject of the page to propose edits on the talk page for inclusion by some other editor on the page itself. Accordingly, I place below citations to third-party sources for someone else to consider adding to the page:

Footnote the membership in the National Humanities Center with the following link for the Center's fellows: http://nationalhumanitiescenter.org/fellowships/ffellows3.htm Markturner (talk) 16:47, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The source provided does not appear to mention the National Humanities Center. Also, while I don't contribute to a lot of BLPs, I don't think we generally include every organization the article-subject is a member of. This is for the next few Request Edits as well. We do want to know organizations Turner founded or has leadership positions in, as well as their life story and notable accomplishments. CorporateM (Talk) 23:56, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Add external link: Steven Pinker on Clear and Simple as the Truth: Writing Classic Prose, beginning 15 minutes into the talk. Markturner (talk) 19:30, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would love to post any in-depth interviews of Turner as an external link, but not to a page where the reader has to skim 15 minutes in to find you! CorporateM (Talk) 23:59, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Add external link: The Case Western Reserve University Youtube presentation of Turner on The Origin of Ideas Markturner (talk) 19:20, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This sounds good. I'm going to take a look at it, but plan to put it in. CorporateM (Talk) 23:59, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

At present, all the sources used in this article are published by Mark himself. This is highly inappropriate. Rklawton (talk) 05:06, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A range of external sources (encyclopedias, textbooks) is visible in a footnote. None of the materials is self-published. How do alerts get removed? Markturner (talk) 19:10, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
