Badly worded section
[edit]The following part of the article is badly worded:
"Some of his works were done in cooperation with David Solomon and beneath the hood of sysinternals.com which is further used by Bryce Cogswell. The commercial part of his works partly spinned of to the company Winternals Software."
I would suggest it gets re-worded so that it actually makes grammatical (and logical) sense...
I agree. --Random

Difference Between NT Workstation and Server - 2 Registry Entries?
[edit]The following statement exists: "In 1996, Russinovich discovered that the difference between the workstation and server editions of Windows NT 4.0 comprised solely two values in the Windows Registry[1]."
Even though this is properly cited, can this or the cited article really be considered accurate since the registry change mentioned in the citation cannot, under any circumstances, cause NT Workstation to spontaneously and magically make the server components of NT Server appear in an installation (e.g. DNS Server, WINS Server, IIS, etc.)? The idea that the only difference between NT Workstation and Server is a couple of registry entries ignores the fact that NT Server contains services and programs that do not exist in NT Workstation.
As written, and as cited, one can only assume that when Mr. Russinovich made his discovery, that he either didn't actually know what he was talking about, or was sorely misinformed as to what was actually contained in both products.

- I've decided to Wikipedia:Be bold and alter the statement referring to Mr. Russinovich's discovery that the "difference between the workstation and server editions of Windows NT 4.0 comprised solely two values in the Windows Registry." I've changed the statement to reflect that what Mr. Russinovich actually discovered (as per the already cited article) is that two registry changes would cause the Workstation edition of NT 4.0 to allow the installation of MS BackOffice products licensed only for the Server edition.
- The way the statement was written originally, it gave the false impression that these two registry changes are the only differences between both editions. Indeed, the cited article both condemns Microsoft for trying to make people think there were other differences, while the cited article simultaneously outlines those other differences. The cited article appears to be sorely misinformed as to the actual situation and contradicts itself with regard to the differences, however, I am not removing the reference as it is a valid citation to Mr. Russinovich's discovery, which I've now properly worded.

Russian descent?
[edit]Why is Mr. Russinovich listed under American people of Russian descent category? Does anyone have any info (with links to credible sources please!) about his ancestors? If there will be no reply in one month (or so) I am going to remove the reference.
And one more (off topic) thing; why I cannot normally link to a category (the link just doesn't appear), same as to any other page in Wikipedia, but I needed to use the style to link to external websites? --Wayfarer (talk) 01:42, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
- Add a colon to just link to a category: [[:Category:American people of Russian descent]] Category:American people of Russian descent --Pmsyyz (talk) 17:29, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Since October 2022 this article's had 2 different sections entitled Works https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mark_Russinovich&oldid=1115944442 one of those should probably change 198.244.98.161 (talk) 05:55, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
- I noticed this too, and have suggested simply removing the redundant header. Hope this meets with everyone's approval. – AndyFielding (talk) 09:46, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
