[edit]An RfC: Which descriptor, if any, can be added in front of Southern Poverty Law Center when referenced in other articles? has been posted at the Southern Poverty Law Center talk page. Your participation is welcomed. – MrX 16:58, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Section: Association with Michael Bellesiles = Guilt by association
[edit]How fortuitous that the section began with 'association!' An attempt to use the fact that Pitcavage's work influenced Bellesides to associate Pitcavage with Bellesides' intellectual dishonesty, ergo properly deleted. See the appropriate section of Association fallacy. Tapered (talk) 08:21, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Is he, though?
[edit]His tweets show a strong tendency to be a Holocaust apologist. He opposes any suggestion of resistance as futile and to have probably made things worse, while ignoring parallels to other genocides that were resisted by the masses, and dismisses actual Jewish resistance as being negative. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.97.9.0 (talk) 04:06, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- You are referencing a michigan gop tweet that implied the US 2A would have prevented the holocaust. Marks reply, which mirrors the position of many holocaust memorial groups, debunked the common 2A talking point. You are perfectly free to have a different 2A opinion than Mark, but please do not conflate the difference in gun rights opinion to holocaust denial for petty and toxic political points. Mark is - obviously to any outside party - not a holocaust apologist in any shape or form. 199.66.13.72 (talk) 06:12, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- idk fam, but something doesn't sit right with me about:
- claiming that the Holocaust didn't start until 1942.
- implying that non-Jews (eg. Romani, Slavs, the disabled, non-Jewish queer people) were not targeted during the Holocaust.
- completely ignoring the fact that there was a ton of armed resistance to the Holocaust, to the point that large parts of the Nazi war machine had to be diverted from the front lines to deal with COIN warfare (which is also where the majority of Nazi atrocities happened).
- Just saying, but if you'll get in trouble with the modern German government for saying it, it's probably Holocaust denial. 2601:805:8600:E110:0:0:0:779D (talk) 06:48, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- I think you have misread his tweet. I think at issue here is a basic political disagreement fundamentally between the libertarian left which is typically pro-gun and the center left to middle, which wants strong gun control or even bans of firearms. Far leftists think guns are one way to equalize power against the monopoly the state has on violence, while people towards the center are averse to violence and take a more pacifist stance. I have never read an tweet Mark has made denying the official number of 4,000,000 who perished in death camps under the Nazi Reich and the 2,000,000 who were shot and murdered by personnel under Operation Reinhard. Holocaust Denier is a serious label to put on someone, especially without an abundance of evidence. 2601:1C2:1602:7120:FDC4:19C2:C:C5C0 (talk) 09:08, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- Please stop spamming the article with "alleged" by historian. This is not a forum for any personal emotional feelings you may have. I would refer to a quick and dirty bio here -
- https://www.congress.gov/116/meeting/house/110495/witnesses/HHRG-116-AS02-Bio-PitcavageM-20200211.pdf
- He is obviously a historian.
- Please do not cite lone tweets that do not involve holocaust denial as establishing a sudden turn to holocaust denial not supported anywhere. It would be strange bedfellows indeed for a holocaust denier to work high up in the ADL for years and be a frequent trusted source by numerous jewish journalists such as from forward, times of israel, etc, etc.
- Take your disagreements over gun rights to a more appropriate forum. Midwesternest (talk) 05:44, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
