This was my first article and therefore might not be quite correct in terms of style.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Triptropic (talkcontribs) 10 July 2013

Unsourced quote removed

[edit]

I've removed the following text: Gray was known for her support of junior colleagues. One wrote of the time he was working in Bell Laboratories in 1957: ‘In [my calculation], I was helped by a little old lady, Marion Gray, one of Bell’s finest mathematicians at that time.’ Currently unsourced, it was added originally with an incomplete parenthetical ref: (Schulz-DuBois, E. O., Bell Systems Technical Journal, 38, 1959.) None of the Schulz-DuBois articles in BSTJ in 1959 support the text.[1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Schazjmd (talkcontribs) 17:00, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • The quote and a more specific reference "Schulz-DuBois E 0. Paramagnetic spectra of substituted sapphires—part I: ruby. Bell Syst. Tech. J. 38:271-90, 1959" is given in a 1983 article in Current Contents (hosted at upenn.edu) [2]. Drchriswilliams (talk) 19:04, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent find, @Drchriswilliams! So it wasn't the actual 1959 paper that included the quote, it was a 1983 letter from Schulz-DuBois about the paper. I've restored the quote with the ref you found.
I didn't restore Gray was known for her support of junior colleagues, because one example doesn't support the blanket statement. Schazjmd (talk) 19:36, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
