[edit]excuse me but where did you found your informations about Marie, especially about 1914-1918 ?
Is there any documentation to back up the claim that she could swim 4000m (2.48 miles) at age 5? That sounds unlikely.Jtyroler (talk) 12:13, 27 January 2011 (UTC) Douzeff 20:12, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I have dealt with this by re-writing the 4000 m assertion more circumspectly. I
think it should be included, but as I have re-written please.Dendrotek 19:27, 5 June 2013 (UTC)
Stuffy old inline citations eh?
[edit]Well, I've done a few. Enough for now! Dendrotek 19:46, 9 April 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dendrotek (talk • contribs)
Croix de Guerre 14 - 18 - actual citation needed regarding bombing mission
[edit]Her tomb is now quite well cited. The following gives an actual photo of the grave and supports the Croix de Guerre claim:
http://www.aerosteles.net/fiche.php?code=nancy-marvingttombe
So, she certainly was awarded the C de G + Palm for some valiant war service or other. But the often-repeated bombing mission to Metz is not, as far as I'm aware, fully supported by a hard-fact citation, despite my having made many searches. Unfortunately, the French Wikipedia article on MM does not directly cite it, either. The best prospect would be for someone living in France, and hopefully a born French-person, who knows how to discover what exactly her Croix de Guerre was awarded for. Where are the archives and are they searchable online, as one could at Kew in England, for a comparable British award?
Until the bombing mission is factually proven, I'm sorry to have to say that something like "... is said to have ..." ought to be inserted in the relevant sentence(s) of the Article.
Maybe, without detracting from MM's wonderful life, we could insert a short section near the end of the Article on "Uncertainties"?

Best I can find so far: - http://metz.fr/pages/conseil_municipal/seances/cm121129/doc/121129_pdcm15.pdf
So, the Mairie de Metz seem prepared to believe in the bombing mission. Is this good enough for us to adopt as a citation? Dendrotek 21:22, 29 May 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dendrotek (talk • contribs)
NOTE: Her Legion of Honor Citation (official French Government document) specifically cites her participation in bombing runs over Metz/Frescaty. I think this is adequate documentation. It is still unclear the details as to HOW this was arranged, as she was not a member of the French military aviation. But, just as her participation as a front-line soldier, there were lots of ways to do things unofficially. I have no doubt this actually happened, but I wish I knew more about it.§ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Medevac6 (talk • contribs) 10:15, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
She "is said to have" prevailed upon a French Army Air Force commander whom she knew socially (probably from balooning days). He allowed her to fly in place of a regular pilot who was injured. I think a citation could be found for that. Okan 12:44, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
Authoress - works of fiction & poetry
[edit]The article includes the statement that Marvingt wrote fiction and prize-winning poetry under the pseudonym Myriel. Not only is this uncited, but also I cannot find any evidence by using Google.fr.
Was she "Myriel" or "Myrielle"? Can anyone back up this information please?Dendrotek 19:23, 5 June 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dendrotek (talk • contribs)
Actually, it was Myriel. Several short articles, which I have seen but do not have at hand, from the 1905-1910 period, in both newspapers and sporting journals, are signed "Myriel". Of interest is that at one time she flew balloon competitions in a balloon named "Myriel". Medevac6 (talk) 10:18, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
Deleting "insufficient inline citations" box
[edit]I do not have editorial experience in handling these "insufficient inline citations" boxes. May anyone delete them? There are now a good number of inline citations that I have added over a period of time. The article could be submitted for a review. I would be willing to submit it and then act on further suggestions, since I am still interested in MM.--Dendrotek 22:13, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
