Military Officer?

[edit]

As a victim of one of the Katyn Massacres I wonder if it follows he was a Polish services officer (he was still young enough to call up in 1939)? This question may best be answerable by those with access to Polish sources; I look in vain for any online register of Katyn dead.Cloptonson (talk) 09:21, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discovered answer to my own question - his military activities are described in his Polish wikipedia article, which mentions he was a reserve officer in an air regiment mobilized to serve in the Defensive War of September 1939 but contradicts the information from the cited 'List of Olympians killed as a result of war', by stating (with citation) that he had been killed in the Katyn Forest itself where his body was found in the mass graves. However I am inexperienced at copying between articles of different languages (one can read the article translated in English but press edit and it reverts to Polish entirely). Over to anyone that knows how...Cloptonson (talk) 17:33, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I note the current edition of Olympedia used as citation says ambivalently he was killed at Lvow and at Katyn. Also this Polish language article on Polish soccer-players killed in WWII upholds him as a Katyn victim on account of being a Polish Army soldier.[1] Cloptonson (talk) 11:44, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
