Birthday

[edit]

Maria was born in 1920, not in 1918. From the "sweet sixteen" Link: "They asked Maria to train for the championship at Moscow, but she wouldn't hear of it. She was afraid that she would make a fool of herself in a competition like that where all the best female skaters of the country started. But at last she yielded and promised to go. Thus, she came to Dynamo Stadium for the first time. To be allowed to start at all, she had to lie about her age. She was only fifteen years old, and you had to be 17."
