From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I just placed this page on Wikipedia, and it was immediately marked for speedy deletion on the basis that the article does not show the importance or significance of the subject.

I believe Dr. Maria Gomori is a noteworthy person, (singular, in fact) and I have cited good references to show this. She is 86 years old, and has dedicated her life to developing solid family therapy programs in traditional teaching institutions, and to the international teaching of the principles she has developed.

She has solid academic credentials, and she has been a pioneer in the fields of psychiatry, social work and family therapy.

She has published, and taught internationally, and I have a good list of references cited. One of her books has been translated into Chinese, and she has established Satir Family Therapy Training Centres in numerous countries.

Please show me where the article does not meet Wikipedia guidelines, and I will certainly fix any problems.

Thanks for your assistance.

Notability

[edit]

I have added text, especially to the first paragraph of the article, with an appropriate citation, that clearly outlines the notability of this remarkable woman. Is this enough to show her importance.? I have been trying to follow a spare style in my Wikipedia entries, to keep the excess out of the text.

Perhaps I was being too stringent in following the style of "don't toot their horns too loud" for an encylopedia such as Wikipedia.

I will have more candour in this talk page.

To the person who attached this query about the notability of Maria Gomori ... I only wish you could meet her. She is in person a dynamic, inspiring human being. Her programs in mainland China are oversubscribed, and she commonly teaches week-long seminars for 150-200 people, who want urgently to learn from her while she is still able to travel. She is honest, alive, human, and exquisitely intelligent and innovative. Noteworthy ... you bet!!

She is a true pioneer. I hope my few words will give you some idea of the importance of this woman.

Her biography should be in Wikipedia. Something is amiss if she does not get to stay .....

I will do anything within my ability to fix this article to suit ... so, please give me some guidelines if you are not prepared to simply let the article stand.

To: Spartaz Hi, it's William Meyer again, on another matter. I just created a page for Maria Gomori that was immediately marked for speedy deletion. I thought I had done my homework with the references, and was confident in putting it up. Indeed, I put up another page yesterday on Albert Trueman which went onto Wiki mainspace with no issue. Please have a look at the page for Maria Gomori and give me any suggestions about what I can do to fix it. She is indeed a noteworthy person ... but the editor seemed to question this. Thanks in advance William Meyer 18:22, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Its mareginal but you need to clearly state in the article why she is notable. Tighten that up and its, at worst, an afd. --Spartaz Humbug! 18:36, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To:Spartaz Thanks for your quick reply. I appreciate your suggestion. I have beefed up the text to show Maria Gomori's importance and notability. Is this enough to satisfy what you suggested? Do I simply wait patiently now for someone to adjudicate and (hopefully) remove the tag on the article? Or should I be more pro-active? Thanks for your advice. William Meyer 20:18, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I took the tag off but generally you should wait for tagged articles to be reviewed by an admin. --Spartaz Humbug! 20:30, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To:Spartaz

Thank you! I appreciate your help. "I owe you one ...." (again).
Just for my information ... you said that I normally "should wait for tagged articles to be reviewed by admin" ... would this simply mean waiting and watching the page to see what happened? William Meyer 20:58, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikifying the Article

[edit]

A tag appeared on this article today, indicating it needs to be Wiki-fied. I found some typos and formatting problems in the article, which I fixed.

I believe I have corrected the formatting on the article. I believe it has been Wikified now. I will watch for a few days to see if others see things to be done. William Meyer 16:39, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
