COI edits reverted
[edit]Hi. I've reverted a series of edits by User:Mcotera, who claims in an edit summery to be the subject of this article, Maria Cotera.
The edits removed a substantial number of references and basic biographical information about the subject. Because of the quantity of information removed, I reverted the edits. However, I acknowledge that there may be reason to dispute some of the information in the article. I'm unfamiliar with the subject, and therefore haven't tried to make any assumptions about the validity of the content.
@Mcotera: It would be helpful if you could discuss here and clarify what content you object to and why. Any sources to replace those you deleted would be helpful. Questionable content from the article that's uncited can certainly be removed, but leaving the article in a completely unsourced state is not a great solution.
Thanks! Skeletor3000 (talk) 03:11, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
This Wikipedia page was created by undergraduate students for a class. It contains very personal information and multiple inaccuracies about my career and publications as well as truly terrible writing. I am a professional academic and this page could potentially seriously harm my career and reputation. Moreover, the information about my parents, my child, my husband, and where we/they live potentially exposes my family to needless inquiry and attention. The article also includes a lot of extraneous historical information that has been added for the purposes of the class assignment but has nothing to with me or my career. I would like the entire contents of the article removed and replaced with a more standard professional biography like this:
Maria Cotera holds a PhD from Stanford University’s Program in Modern Thought, and an MA in English from the University of Texas. She is currently an associate professor in the Departments of Women’s Studies and American Culture at the University of Michigan, where she is the Director of Latina/o Studies Program. Cotera's first book, Native Speakers: Ella Deloria, Zora Neale Hurston, Jovita González, and the Poetics of Culture, (University of Texas Press, 2008) received the Gloria Anzaldúa book prize for 2009 from the National Women's Studies Association (NWSA). Her edited volume (with Dionne Espinoza and Maylei Blackwell), Chicana Movidas: New Narratives of Feminism and Activism in the Movement Era (University of Texas Press, 2018) has been adopted in courses across the country. Professor Cotera is currently working on the Chicana por mi Raza Digital Memory Project, an online interactive archive of oral histories and material culture documenting Chicana Feminist praxis from 1965-1985. She is the lead curator for two public history exhibits: Las Rebeldes: Stories of Strength and Struggle in southeast Michigan (2013) and Chicana Fotos: Nancy De Los Santos (2017). Cotera has served on the National Council for the American Studies Association (2007-2010), the governing board of the Latina/o Studies Association (2014-2015), the program committee for the National Women’s Studies Association (2017-2018), and the Arte Público Recovery Project Governing Board (2018-present).

Update @Mcotera: Thank you for your reply. I've gone ahead and deleted all uncited and irrelevant information from the article. The biographical content you supplied above is a start, but it will need to have citations added, and I wouldn't include any Amazon links as I believe it goes against WP:PROMO. The accolades, etc are perfectly suitable for inclusion so long as I can locate sources, which I'm perfectly willing to do when I have time.
One very important thing you should know is that the content deleted from the article will still exist in the article's history. If you feel that it's of a sensitive enough nature that its archival is problematic, please see WP:RFO for information on how to request permanent removal of the content by an administrator.
I hope that my edits have at least removed content of concern. I'm going to work to build the article up to a functional state, and will reference your suggestions in doing so. However, I don't have time to tackle that right now. I hope my initial reversion of your edits didn't come off as rude!
Thanks again for your communication here. I'll be back soon to add more appropriate and referenced content. Skeletor3000 (talk) 03:43, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
I am happy to add some citations for the standard bio I provided. I can also remove the links unless you have already done so. Thanks for your help! Mcotera (talk) 04:03, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
