Balance

[edit]

This article seems to me to need a bit of POV balance. While containing a number of statements and facts that could be construed as sympathetic to Alyokhina, including a lengthy block quote critical of her trial, the article appears to have no balancing statement by prosecutor, judge, etc. Material could be easily found at the main Pussy Riot article. I'm on my way to bed now, but I'll try to add some of this in tomorrow. -- Khazar2 (talk) 04:35, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Maria/Masha

[edit]

So Maria seems to also go by the name Masha in multiple articles and sources. Her Twitter handle is even @MashaAlekhina. I'm still new to Wikipedia editing, how can we incorporate this nickname? Sarawebber233 (talk) 09:31, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's the usual nickname for Maria in Russian, just like "Kathy" is for "Katherine" in English. MaxBrowne (talk) 00:27, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Balance Redux

[edit]

I concur with Khazar2. This article was featured in today's Wikipedia so I read it. A quick search showed she burst in on an otherwise peaceable assembly and tried to hijack it for her political purposes. Missing is any account as to whether she resisted arrest and the whether violence on her part played any role in her subsequent imprisonment. I raise this particular point from past experiences particularly an event I witnessed at Northwestern University 30 years ago, when some "activists" violently attempted to disrupt a peaceable meeting. Though they weren't, they should have been jailed. I felt so at the time, even though I was on the political Left myself. Media bias allows leftist activists to get away with a lot nowadays and it's time they be forced to settle accounts with the rest of society which doesn't share their passions. I encourage the author of this article to flesh it out with more details so readers can know the extent to which Alyokhina's prison sentence was justified.
