Spelling

[edit]

Shouldn't the spelling be in the same way as it is in the Republic's name spelling? --Üñţïf̣ļëŗ (see also:ә? Ә!) 14:26, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The republic's name (Mari) is the conventional English name (of the republic). The name here (Mariy) is a transliteration, since no conventional English name exists for this park. We shouldn't be translating a part of the park's name—it's all either supposed to be transliterated (Mariy Chodra), or translated (Mari Forest). Translation, however, can't be substantiated since it is not supported by any English sources, so the next logical thing to do is to transliterate. Does it make sense?—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); December 1, 2010; 15:03 (UTC)
I suppose that translation is incorrect in that case, so transliteration is the best way. The found official sources in English give totally incorrect result: http://www.nationalparks-worldwide.info/russia.htm --Üñţïf̣ļëŗ (see also:ә? Ә!) 11:25, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just for the record, I couldn't access that website to assess what's there (it's not loading for me for some reason). I'll try again later.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); December 2, 2010; 14:15 (UTC)
