Throughout the series the various writers were never consitant in their stories on O'Houlihan-they varied from a compasionette caring person-to a femme fatale whoose life is spent drinking too much at parties and having affairs with officers and other ranks to an overzealus tough as nails by the book marinent-in 3/10 the Nurses refer to Houilian as "Herman Goering in Drag". {This last remark only shows that writers ignorance of the real Herman Goering who was hardly a marinet-but a prime example of a narcissist.} Also the early episode which exposes her alcohalism-she drinks half a quart of brandy a day-is only followed up by the late season epsiode when she consoles a fellow alcoholic nurse-possibly in a real life timeline it would have been Houlihan who has to take the "Cure"-but the friend was written in as a subsitute-else the writers would have had to drop Houlihan from the series! Futhermore in one epsiode when she is drunk in the operating Room is a farce: Hawkeye and Trapper John give her coffe to sober up-which is a myth-she still would have been drunk; furthermore in real life she would have been court martialed for dereliction of duty and would probably had to resign her commission.
