Pronunciation
[edit]Professor John Wells, who is an expert on this kind of thing, states on his blog that the village's name may be pronounced /mɑːˈden/. A commenter suggests that "the Kent Marden is etymologically different from others and forms part of a set of Kentish names with -den which are stressed on the last syllable". Can anyone confirm or refute this, preferably with some source which will allow the incorporation of verifiable information into the article? Thanks. Old Man of Storr (talk) 06:29, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Since this is fairly confidently stated by people who usually know what they're talking about I've gone ahead and removed the current /ˈmɑrdən/ from the article. It is unsourced and I suspect that it shouldn't be rhotic, which further calls into question its credibility in my view. Old Man of Storr (talk) 06:31, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- As a Kent native, I can tell you that the normal pronounciation is Mard'n, with the emphasis on the first syllable and the "e" silent. Mjroots (talk) 20:43, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

2022 restructure
[edit]I have done some work on the page to deal with the tags and missing references, but also a restructure to hopefully make it easier for other editors to expand or add new topics. Marden has enthusiastic local historians chroniclers. I hope they will step in.Ed1964 (talk) 04:21, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
