I submitted my biography last week and it now says there is a copyright problem. Can you please explain? the preceding unsigned comment is by 128.83.86.45 (talk • contribs) 2005-06-09 15:26:07 (UTC)

When we see a new article that's word-for-word the same as an existing website, we assume it's plagiarized from that site and hence a copyright violation. I notice that the source ([1]) has a GFDL notice on it so I'll remove the copyvio notice. Writing an article about yourself is generally frowned on, though, see Wikipedia:Vanity page. Also, please capitalize article titles correctly when creating them. DopefishJustin (・∀・) 17:16, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

I think Marc is allowed to write the article about himself, as he is a minor celebrity. If Tom Petty submitted his own biography to the Wikpedia, would that be considered "vanity" ? Whotookthatguy 20:59, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfC: seems to violate "original research" policy

[edit]

While I know Marc is a real person, this seems to be largely self-promotional and in violation of the original research policy. chupacerveza 17:56, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Hmmm, Wikipedia:Or#Citing_oneself does permit citing oneself, provided that the information has been properly published somewhere. The larger problem seems to be with WP:Autobiography. The guideline is to first publish the article somewhere in userspace, and then reach consensus vis-a-vis notability, and then publish it. - superβεεcat  05:13, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
