Orphaned references in Marc Garneau
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Marc Garneau's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 06:48, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
POV edits
[edit]@Mikeconnan: please stop adding the same thing you have added three times now due to it being highly editorialized. Feel free to put things within the article to explain what the government did (or didn't) do during COVID-19 pandemic, but you aren't giving a balanced image of what happened. I still have concerns about WP:PAID but I'll assume good faith. Also pinging @Paul Erik: due to them having the same concerns as me. Thanks, SixulaTalk 16:04, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
@Sixula: TO SIXULA : Please read more carefully before saying I keep adding the same thing. Following your edit, I actually cut the original text in half and made sure it was using a more neutral tone. I dont know how you can make accusations of me being paid to do it, while the content is simply a very diluted compilation of the subject actions (or lack of); maybe you are just uninformed of the actuality (and would benefit reading the included sources), or maybe you are some kind of politic fan of the subject trying to censor for his benefit. Anyhow, I suggest you learn and read a little more about the subject before playing the sherif. Thanks/Mike.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikeconnan (talk • contribs)
- @Mikeconnan: The most recent addition was not in keeping with WP:SYNTH. Most of the sources did not even mention Marc Garneau. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 17:20, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- I don't have an objection to adding something about the pressures that Garneau faced to offer financial help to airlines. It's just that it needs policy-compliant sourcing: not to articles that make no mention of Garneau; also, not to opinion columns. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 17:57, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- I agree with Paul Erik, we can add something for sure, it's just that most of the sources are either opinion pieces or are sources which don't have anything to due with Canada. And by the way, Mikeconnan, I am not "censoring" for his benefit. Simply put, I would just like to be neutral about what happened. In fact, there is no mention of the one billion dollar wage subsidy which the government provided or the reasoning behind keeping the funds away (spoiler alert: it's because the airlines didn't refund Canadians). And before you accuse me of saying I'm bias towards this politician, it's quite the opposite, I actually believe they haven't done enough to keep Canadian airlines afloat. But that doesn't matter, what matters is that we maintain a neutral tone and explain both sides of the story, and put simply, your paragraph was not up to it. I would be happy to work with you on creating a neutral paragraph. Thanks, SixulaTalk 18:11, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
@Sixula:@Paul Erik: Ok guys, a little about me before I carry on : I am an old airline pilot directly affected by the minister lack of actions, so have some difficulty to stay neutral ... but I agree that Wikipedia is not a forum to express frustrations. You guys have been courteous so I think we can work on something that will be a clean, Wikipedian, neutral chapter. But keep in mind that I am old fellow : what I am telling you is very realistic from the field, but at the same time am not the best Wikipedian so I can be weak on some policies and coding. So here is what I suggest : let me breed a few days, review my sources so they will comply with Paul Erik observations and I will rewrite something trying to be as neutral as possible. I will not include it immediately in Garneau's page, but instead submit it to you here and you guys can look at it, maybe suggest some corrections (regarding content, sources, tone or syntax) and when we all agree that it contains at least the bare minimum while respecting Wikipedia policies, then I will post it. Sounds good ?
- @Mikeconnan: ah, now I get it. I understand your frustrations; honestly, the reason I suspected PAID was because of the somewhat bad grammar and the one-tilted view of it (and also I adore flying and Air Canada is my airline, so it pains me to see them struggling). I think your idea of submitting here is great and if you wish, you can already start working on it now. Thanks, SixulaTalk 23:15, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
