Request to update Wikipedia page
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello. As requested I'm logging my request to changing the Marathonbet Wikipedia page to ensure I do not breach COI guidelines.
I've written some new copy (below) with correct and updated facts/figures for the Wikipedia page, however I understand I can't just change the above page because of COI. I'll need to add references.
Thanks.
Marathonbet is an online gambling brand operated by a number of companies belonging to one group and has been operating across Europe and the UK since 1997. In 2015 Marathonbet also started to offer casino games.[1]
Operations
Companies operating under the Marathonbet brand are licenced in the United Kingdom, Alderney, Spain and Curacao.
Products and Services
Marathonbet offers pre-match and live betting markets across a range of sports and events through its own online sportsbook. Pool (Toto) and financial betting is also available. All Marathonbet products, apart from casino games, are developed in-house.
In July 2013 Marathonbet launched a mobile sportsbook for Android and iOS phones and tablet devices.[2]
Partners
Marathonbet is the Global Betting Partner of Manchester United[3] and official betting partner of Liverpool football clubs[4]. It is also the club and shirt sponsor of Hibernian football club[5] and official betting partner of Tottenham Hotspur, Middlesbrough and Derby County football clubs.
In July 2013 Marathonbet announced it would become Fulham FC’s main team sponsor[6]. The deal was the biggest in the club’s history.[7] Marathonbet also previously sponsored Dynamo Kiev between 2013 and 2015.

- Not done This proposed change is blatantly promotional and will not be approved: "biggest and most reputable", "haul of prizes and special offers", "exclusive behind-the-scenes content"—these phrases sound as if they were pulled straight from an advertisement. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising and showcasing; all content must be neutrally worded. Altamel (talk) 21:32, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

- Everything in this request except the "Partners" section can be added once an appropriate third-party reference is found for each sentence. As for the "Partners" section, all the information already seems to be in the article except the sponsorship deals with Manchester United and Liverpool – and even then, I'm not sure those should be added. It still seems like borderline advertising to mention every sponsorship deal. Also, I need some more direction on how to implement this request: should any similar passages in the article be deleted and replaced by this content or are these edits in addition to existing edits? Altamel (talk) 05:11, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
- Also, @Mdann52: Thanks for cleaning up this request; I noticed you removed the fluff about being recognized by a PR agency. Altamel (talk) 05:11, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
- Altamel This new entry is going to have less information than the existing entry... how does that work? And how am I meant to reference this for example: 'Marathonbet is an online gambling brand operated by a number of companies belonging to one group and has been operating across Europe and the UK since 1997' if there is no online articles written by third parties? Thanks for your efforts on this - I never knew it was such an exhaustive process!
- @Kidohno:, apologies for the late reply: I've been on the road traveling for several of the past days. I assumed that new text you proposed would be merged into the existing article instead of completely replacing it. Would that be preferable? If a statement cannot be referenced, that suggests that it shouldn't be included in Wikipedia because there are no sources to support it! For that specific statement, I've found several articles that say Marathonbet was founded in 1997 and operates across Europe and UK. The problem is that "number of companies belonging to one group"; what does that mean? Perhaps if that statement is unverifiable, it could be removed. Also, please remember to sign your comments. Thanks, Altamel (talk) 17:53, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
