The "Problems" section is badly written and seems like it is just one person who is unhappy. The part about the 661 being the same price as the 660 is not even relevant. I believe that the PMD660 only has 1 line input. Mine does. Is there a second input on later models?

Also, using external pads will only reduce noise created by external devices and not the problematic noise with the PMD660. The problem is internal, created by the mic preamps, and the hiss is there whether anything is connected to the recorder or not. The only way to resolve that issue is to replace the preamps.
