If Manuel de Mederos was a PORTUGUESE, not a spanish, his parents name must have been portuguese too. It´s not because that I´m from Portugal, that I did those corrections. I find hard to believe that a wikipedian that suports so many countrys independence is so obsessed with the spanish spelling of a portuguese couple ! Mistico

I noticed that a wikipedian who suports the independence of several countrys in the world seems to not understand that the correct spelling of Manuel de Mederos parents, since he was portuguese, must be also in portuguese, not in spanish. Please, respect the portuguese language. Mistico

You didn´t understood what I was saying. You know Ferdinand Magellan, right ? His portuguese name was Fernão de Magalhães, and wen he went to serve Spain, he become known was Hernando Magallanes, as you can read in the Wikipedia. Manuel de Mederos original portuguese name was Manuel de Medeiros, like he´s still known in the portuguese speaking world, even if he´s known in México and the hispanic world by that other version. I think that, even mantining his name in spanish, it also should be shown the original version of it, that was Manuel de Medeiros. I can give the example of Marc Chagall, was a belarrusian painter, who become a french citizen, and he´s known by the french version of his name. Even if his real name was Mosha Shagall, that also deserves to be shown. Not to shown also Manuel de Mederos original name is and important ommission. I don´t see what´s the problem in showing what was his original name, and in writting the name of his parents, who were both portuguese and never become spanish citizens, in portuguese, and not in spanish. Can you explain better why you think the name of his parents must be in spanish ? Mistico

IT HAS TO BE "MEDEROS" AND NOT "MEDEIROS"...

Simply because that´s the way he is inscribed in all the spanish documents from wich this article was started. The documents for the founding of Saltillo, and all of his personal papers are in spanish and HE HIMSELF signed as "Mederos" and not "Medeiros". It is true that in the Hispanic world the is not known as "Medeiros", as you stated; at list not in México, where he spend the the most of his life. By the way: the Mederos surname exists for al least 120 years before Manuel de Mederos was born, and is a common surname at the Cannary Islands. So, to my belief, "Mederos" and "Medeiros" are two different surnames that probably have a similar origin, but that have evolved separately. In this particular article, I stayed with the surname that is documented. I think you´re probably mistaken him with Manuel de Medeiros da Costa Canto e Albuquerque wich altough he might be related because they came from the same country, he was an entirely different person.

By the way, there is not either any "Manuel de Mederos" or "Manuel de Medeiros" page in portuguese, wich it think it´s kind of sad.

He became a spanish citizen, so he signed his name in spanish, for obvious reasons. By the way, you think their parents, from the Azores, were spanish ? You put their names in spanish, but I doubt they were from Spain. User:Mistico
