Rewrite
[edit]I have re-written this article to conform to Wikipedia's current standard of referencing. Adam 04:37, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
I now have Stephen Holt's book and I am working through it adding more material to the article as I go. We may get to the stage where discussion of the History needs to be split off to a new article. Adam 11:36, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Clarke gave the 1976 BL entitled "A discovery of Australia". Is this worthy of a mention? -- I@n 13:29, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
It is mentioned. I am reading the lectures now and will add more when I have finshed. Adam 23:44, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Bias of article
[edit]This article contains gross inaccuracies and omissions. These include the way in which Manning Clark's award of a Lenin Jubilee Medal is minimised. The award was given to him at a ceremony in Moscow before an audience of International Communist Party Functionaries, and he was the only Australian to be so awarded, indicating the soviet government considered him a person of importance. He gave a speech praising Lenin and the soviet Revolution in fulsome terms before this audience - the speech was discovered by Prof Peter Hruby when the soviet archives were opened - but is was, significantly, kept completely secret, suggesting the entire thing was covert and furtive. Clark normally sought every opportunity to promote and publicise himself and it is significant he did not do so on this occasion. When I edited Debrett's Handbook of Australia in the 1980's he sent me copious entries about himself, apparently craving inclusion in this Anglophile, "establishment" volume, despite his Anglophobia and professed radicalism. In general this article minimises the very substantial criticisms that have been made of his work, including arguments that it contains coded anti-Semitism with its references to "people in black" and "Synagoges of fat-mannery" etc. It is sychophantic. Robert Manne was not sacked from Quadrant but resigned from it.(60.224.193.148 18:52, 7 January 2007 (UTC))
When you become a registered Wikipedian I will be happy to discuss these matters with you. Adam 11:23, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
OK now I realise you are Hal Colebatch, failed Liberal preselection candidate and well-known rightwing crank - and you have to be pretty out there to be too rightwing for the WA Libs. But even knowing who you are I maintain my position that I don't debate articles with unregistered users. Adam 11:44, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Time for more of Matthews
[edit]This article currently makes little or no reference to Brian Matthews excellent 2008 biography of Manning Clark. I plan to add some references203.129.49.145 (talk) 03:17, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Soviet agent claims
[edit]The Soviet agent claims were first made in 1996 by the Herald-Sun. I've edited the article accordingly. The major contributor to this excellent article has left Wikipedia, so I hope that others will check what I've done. - Richard Cavell (talk) 03:33, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
