Separate pages for the main characters

[edit]

I posted this in Broadway's page in response to the merging question.

I believe these characters have more than enough material and personality individually to warrent making them their own pages...connected to the main page ofcourse.

Judging by this series' immense popularity that has stood the test of time...as well as the fact these characters go through quite a bit of character development, Much more than your average western animation character...I think if someone is willing to help me we should make profiles for the more prolific characters of this series and maybe one page to minor or one shot characters. Pictures, table of contents to connect all the pages together...the whole deal.

I'll slowly start putting together some pages...uploading some pictures and accuratly um.."Remembering" the information about each character..but if someone is willing to help me out please say so on any of these discussion tables.

Gargoyles has an enormous following, and is a wonderfully crafted show that I think deserves a great multi layered entry on Wikipedia.--Kiyosuki 00:42, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, sure, go for it. Bear in mind though that apart from the Broadway entry (which is not all that encyclopedic) this is the first information we've had on the main characters themselves. I'm not the biggest fan of the show (though it was very good), and if it fell to me to make this article, then I'm not sure there's as much call for Gargoyles articles as you may think. -- Supermorff 15:09, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Merger

[edit]

It seems extremely arbitrary to define characters from the series in terms of articles on the clans. Certainly, no other Wiki articles on other TV series do it like that. For that matter, this article is very redundant with the List_of_Gargoyles_characters. I feel like we need a more consistant precedent; something along the lines of references to all the characters in the List_of_Gargoyles_characters articles, and perhaps individual articles on the main characters. skeeJay 16:52, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The information on this page could not possibly by merged into the "List of Gargoyles characters" page. Indeed, I'm inclined to agree with you that it seems arbitrary to have a page referring to a clan and not to the characters individually. Nevertheless, an article on the clan turns out to be an acceptible length compared to other Wikipedia articles. I personally feel that pages on individual characters would be sorely lacking in information, but perhaps I'm wrong on that. Also, merging into a longer article with such a long list of characters will make that article far too long. I suggest we leave this article as it is until such time as enough information is added to seperate out the characters sections into their own articles. -- Supermorff 12:59, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It still feels awkward to have an article on the clan, as opposed to an article for each character or one article with all characters. I think it sets an awful precedent. I have a new solution, though—a Gargoyles wikia could solve a lot of problems and allow us to be a lot more minimalist in terms of what kind of plot detail needs to be included in Wikipedia. Thoughts? skeeJay 17:18, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, and a Gargoyles wiki, if properly done, could be a good place for this stuff. Although... how exactly does it solve the problem we have on Wikipedia? We're still left with a choice of leaving this article as is (which you feel is awkward), or merging into "List of Gargoyles characters" (which either renders that article useless or removes a lot of info), or seperating the page out into individual character articles (which gives us a handful of short articles). If only we could get more encyclopedic information for each character, as opposed to general plot info, then the third option is probably preferable. Still, I don't see any of those solutions as perfect. Ideas? -- Supermorff 20:12, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As you all can tell, the main characters page is too large to warrant a merger. Individual pages for each of the Gargoyles would be a complete waste as each description only last no more than a paragraph or two, and their histories and descriptions are intertwined, so I think the current setup is OK. I think there should be a separate page (with pictures) for the other Gargoyle clans (wasn't there one already?) and maybe perhaps for some of the human characters. The main characters page is getting pretty crowded.

As for a Gargoyles wikia, I believe I already created a template for it, and I will try to add them to all the pages. Eman007

I would still argue that the "main" Gargoyles warrant their own articles. It seems strange to lump them into a group article, despite appearing in nearly every episode (except for most of the Avalon world tour, of course, as well as one or two other episodes), while characters like the Archmage, Sevarius, and Thailog, each of whom only appeared in a handful of episodes, all get their own articles. --T smitts 16:54, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:GarBrooklyn.jpg

[edit]

Image:GarBrooklyn.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Lexington's "orientation"

[edit]

Why was the section addressing Lexington's unadressed sexuality taken out? The interview was real, and the section was revelant, as it held information pertaining to the character, and it wasn't as though it was overloading the servers with it's size. I move for it to be brought back to it's "propor" place. Nemen32 (talk) 00:13, 25 September 2008 (UTC)NemenNemen32 (talk) 00:13, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coldstone article transfered

[edit]

I recently decided to transfer the information from the Coldstone article here. The main reason is that the recently release Clan Building Trade Paperback establishes him and Coldfire rejoining the clan, and because it's was suggested that the character didn't need a single page. I figured since no one acted that this was a better alternative than merging with List of Gargoyles characters and compromising most of the information.
