Human dietary requirements for this metal are very small, and Manganese deficiency has not been found as frequently as an excess of Manganese, or Manganese toxicity. Manganese toxicity is informally called "Manganese Madness" from examples in miners. It is treated with levodopa for that chemical's ability to treat Parkinsonism, although levodopa neither binds and causes the excretion of Manganese nor does it address all of the symptoms, one of which is outbursts of violent speech or behaviour.
