Autobiography?
[edit]This article, posing as a biography, is actually an autobiography (in its entirety or in very large part), as internal evidence confirms. It lacks neutrality. It lacks balance, for conflicting views are not included. As autobiographies are deprecated on Wikipedia, I imagine that it should be removed. --Fred Q (talk) 13:29, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
I have to agree with Fred Q. Clynes's work was largely discredited among psychologists of music in the late 1980s and many of the statements of this article, including the one used as a "Fact of the Day," are misleading if not inaccurate.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.223.186.207 on 23:32, 27 April 2010.
Sez Eliot: Although, in the 80s, some psychologists took exception to Dr. Clynes' conclusions or methods, it is inapt to say that they have been "largely discredited" or "discredited" at all, for that matter. A variety of views, often conflicting views, is quite normal for scientific work, and disagreement or critique can be very far from "discrediting." It might be good for some enterprising person, for the sake of fairness and completeness, to bring in some of the opposed views. My own opinion, having read some of the critique, is that it is nowhere near as careful or credible as Dr. Clynes' own work. But let others read and consider, too. That's science for you.
(To Fred Q--did you really mean, "deprecated?" Odd usage there, a little charged, I think. Did you just mean "discouraged?") —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eliot Fintushel (talk • contribs) 04:42, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit]The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Manfred Clynes/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.
This needs authentic third party sources in addition to the current material drawn from Clynes' work and a proper lead.--Grahame (talk) 14:25, 16 May 2008 (UTC) |
