Historical Paper v Recent Website

[edit]

This should be two items. The historical newspaper that went out of circulation in 1828 is totally unrelated to the website published under its name. Indeed, the more recent edits to the page have removed things like the original newspaper masthead graphic. There seems to be some kind of trading on a historic name happening with the website attempting to show some form of link or continuity with the historic newspaper. The only link is the common name. It may be the case that the current website does not yet merit an entry as its content seems to be rarely cited, if ever. 2.217.0.5 (talk) 21:08, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Website

[edit]

The article as it now stands has removed all content relating to the web only publication of The Manchester Gazette. The editor who made the link between the current website has made dubious connections on other articles bizarrely giving it some kind of apostlistic transmission from a newspaper not published in any form for 200 years. The online newspaper carries no original content apart from blog like editorials, the rest being reprints of press releases which are carried by innumerate online publishers.

Interestingly, the online publication is involved in a dispute with Manchester City Council over the use by the council crest by the publication, which also crept into this article. If any mention is to be made of the online edition careful attention must be paid to any use of a masthead which is in breach of our own copyright policy. Also say particular attention to issues of WP:COI and attempts at WP:OWN.
