Eric Burdon released a version of "Mama told me not to come" on his 1967 Album "Eric is Here" this predates the Randy Newman 1970 release although the songwriter is credited as Randy Newman.

I've removed this

Newman mentions Three Dog Night's version is better than his, and his favorite of all versions.[citation needed]

Can't find a source for this, and this is the same unverified claim as made for Your Song, for the TDN version of Elton John's song. I find it a bit suspicious.Trishm (talk) 09:37, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. John, the Night Tripper, covered Mama Told Me Not To Come. His version was played in Blues Brothers 2000 in which he appeared, joining B.B. King's big band 98.121.163.189 (talk) 09:53, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Once and for all, it's "strait-laced"!

[edit]

Read the dictionary, people! "Strait(s) of Gibraltar", "strait jacket", etc. ... Now, will someone with the time please search all three million articles for this pandemic misuse? Or maybe invent a bot to find "straight-laced" (-jacket) and replace it? Can't be that hard for someone who knows how to write one. (I don't.) A lot of people would have been shocked by a hippy party - not just an "extraordinarily strait-laced young man"! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.197.15.138 (talk) 04:13, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's amazingly funny that Tom Jones covered this song - that icon of showbiz manlyness - and even funnier if you take the double sense of "come" into account. ;) 83.254.154.164 (talk) 08:13, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Time Change?"

[edit]

I cannot figure out what the "...same 3/4 by 2/4 time change..." is in either version. Certainly the introductory keyboard in both versions plays a pattern that is not in x/4 time (is it 3/4?), but that is not qualify as a "change" in the time signature. As near as I can tell both recordings are in 4/4 throughout. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.115.179.142 (talk) 22:11, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
