What does Malagasy mean exactly?

[edit]

According to this article, the Malagasy are about half of the population of the country. From this one might one might think that only the mostly Malay highlanders are included. Yet, the subgroups described under Malagasy also include all the coastal peoples. It doesn't seem likely that the other minorities are significant, so the article should be changed to "most of the population" or some disambiguation made that this name does not refer to all native inhabitants of Madagascar. I noticed that too - in terms of ethnic groups represented on the island, the non-Malagasy are a tiny minority and consist mainly of residents and citizens of Indo-Pakistani, Chinese and European origin or descent. Lemurbaby (talk) 07:00, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
