Lack of concise information
[edit]The article seemingly dances around what is specific to the French rank of Major without defining it. To provide one extract as an example:
"While the rank functions of major (Major) in France, can be similarly compared to that of a sergeant major, it is higher (rank of major) than a chief warrant officer (Adjudant-Chef), and similar to a master chief (depending on the service branch of the respective country); the rank of major (Major) is still different."
None of these examples are universally, or even generally accurate, especially when the link to "master chief" is to a specific position in the US Navy (Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy) instead of a Master Chief Petty Officer. Regardless, the reader cannot tell exactly where this position/rank falls in the French rank structure from the information give.
History of the rank and the reclassification is sufficient yet presented without any structure, confusing the description. This article could be edited to be significantly shorter and still provide more information. 2600:8805:8000:3D:583C:9255:A34F:F1A2 (talk) 02:52, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
Clean up
[edit]I have removed large parts of the page, as they were incomprehensible and unsourced. That version can be found here. Skjoldbro (talk) 14:52, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
