[edit]Could this Maine be the real origin of Cenel Maine? Thirty years per generation in the Cenel Maine pedigree would match the time period of Maine mac Cearbaill. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.81.177.197 (talk) 23:09, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- Cenel Maine are said to be derived from Maine mac Neill, a son of Niall of the Nine Hostages. However, the genealogies are often based on synthetic histories. The historian francis John Byrne believes that the Cenel Maine were part of a larger Ui Maine kingdom split up in this time between a westmeath and a Connacht branch. The Ui maine themselves have a tradition of Airgialla roots.Timelinefrog (talk) 02:59, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
