request for impartial edit 2/2/10
[edit]Another change has been made to this page without any factual information that is biased in nature. I am requesting that someone review the statement under Superintendent of Schools made on 2/1/10. There is no source that backs up this statement, nor is it worded in a factual tone. FULL DISCLOSURE - I am an administrator for District 207 and I am not making this change myself because it would be a conflict of interest.
request for impartial edit 1/21/10
[edit]The section 2010 staff cuts contains a non-factual editorial statement: "Maine Township High School District 207 did not manage their money correctly" - I am requesting that someone edit this to be a non-biased neutral statement. Please refer to the district's website [1] for district information around this issue or this news article from a local newspaper which explains the situation [2] - Full disclosure - I am asking someone else to research and make this change because I am an administrator in District 207 and do not want to edit because of conflict of interest. We would prefer to see unbiased factual information posted about these potential actions by the Board of Education.
- I am going to try and tackle this, though this serves as a reminder to all potential editors.
- 1. Facts, especially those of a potentially controversial nature, according to the verifiability policy must be supported by documentation from reliable sources. This editor is correct that this information is called into question without the proper sourcing (though the school district's website will in no way meet the reliability policy in this case).
- 2. Wikipedia is not censored. Thus, if reliable sources support potentially uncomfortable facts/views/positions, etc ... these may be included, provided that the information is supported through reliable sources, and in proportion to other reliably sourced views/positions per WP:WEIGHT. Please note to potential editors: blogs, nings, and such are not reliable sources. If editors have an issue with edits, I strongly encourage them to begin a discussion here before starting an edit war. I add kudos to the editor who brought this up for identifying a potential conflict of interest.
- I will try and keep an eye on this article. I have also added this article to the auspices of the school project so that other editors may keep an eye on things. I wish all editors the best! LonelyBeacon (talk) 20:03, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
re: edits referencing www.northshorevoice.org
[edit]Having examined the website, the best that I can tell is that it is something akin to a blog with a repository of claimed sources, but aside from the single person running the website, does not appear to have editorial oversite. Per the policy on reliable sources, this does not meet the threshold for inclusion. I am fully aware that there are contentious issues swirling in this district's community, and information that is supported by reliable sources, per wikipedia's definition of such, will be included, irrelevant of the side of the issue they are on, provided such information is encyclopedic. Attempts to turn this article into a grandstand will not easily be tolerated by editors on this site.
I am filing a report with the schools group to ask for extra eyes to be kept here. LonelyBeacon (talk) 05:09, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, you did the right thing in this case. High quality reliable sources are required for contentious material about living persons per WP:BLP, and the website provided clearly wasn't one. Camaron · Christopher · talk 12:23, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
