Main Range
[edit]Its interesting how this part of the Great Divide was once called the Main Range. Its likely the extent of the range has altered over the years, although it is possible there were two Main Ranges within 60 kms of each other. The Main Range linked from this article describes the northern extent of the Main Range as reaching Kangaroo Mountain which is 60 kms south east of Toowoomba. This statement is unreferenced. Are there recent reliable sources which define another Main Range in the area of this railway? - Shiftchange (talk) 09:53, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
- According to this, the northern extent is undefined (geologically speaking) but might be around Toowoomba. However, I presume from the point of view of the early settlers, they would have been less interested in the changes in the geology and more interested in how to get over it, so might not make any distinction if it appeared to them to be a contiguous barrier. QR definitely seem to be using the name for around the Toowoomba area; read this Kerry (talk) 05:49, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
