[edit]I don't think the article has to be deleted. To begin with, the article isn't short. -- Taku (talk) 23:30, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- The speedy deletion reason is invalid. Context is provided by "In mathematics..." followed by the use of standard mathematical notation. I've removed the frivolous tagging. --C S (talk) 23:34, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not willing to let your misunderstanding of CSD criteria go :-). Please refer to
That's the criterion you tagged the article with. It's wrong because the subject is clearly identified. A "no explanation of what [it] is used for" reasoning is suited for an AFD type discussion. Since you make a lot of this type of edit, it is important for you to get it right. BTW, an inequality like this is used to bound either quantity by the other. --C S (talk) 00:08, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Very short articles lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article. Example: "He is a funny man with a red car. He makes people laugh."

- No deletion please *provided* the content is correct, more comments below - JK 90.180.192.165 (talk) 23:46, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
The inequality can be used for obvious purposes, like getting an estimate. -- Taku (talk) 23:42, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- Not inherently obvious, I guess. ;-) Then, I'm not a mathematician. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 00:13, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, 'getting an estimate' is an obvious purpose, and I am a mathematician. Another is to find out what someone means when he is saying 'using Foo's inequality we immediately get...'. Anyway, the article will be truly useful only if Foo's name is correct here. More comments below - JK 90.180.192.165 (talk) 23:46, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
Kurt Mahler
[edit]I'm like 90% sure that this inequality is named after Kurt Mahler, but I still can't find a reference supporting this. (So, I'm putting this here for a moment.) -- Taku (talk) 23:42, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- First, this is important and ought to be documented when the article was created. Second, a few clicks in google destroyed my trust in this being correct (but I cannot say). Third, the article contains reference to http://eom.springer.de/M/m064060.htm, where the name Mahler is in item b) assigned to a different statement, while the inequality itself is in a). - JK 90.180.192.165 (talk) 23:46, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
