Is the simple wire loop sometimes used on TVs an example of this type of antenna? boffy_b 06:16, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Merge this article into Loop antenna?

I don't think this subject is different enough from Loop antenna to merit a separate article. "Magnetic loop" is just another name for the most common type of loop antenna, an electrically small loop, and should be treated in that article, so its relation to other types of loops can be shown. Keeping both articles results in a lot of duplication, because small loops also have to be described in Loop antenna. --Chetvorno^TALK 23:06, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

I agree, and have said so on the other talk page. Or 2 articles about the two types of "loop antennas" which are totally different in all respects. I don't know that the name "magnetic loop" is the most common reference either, though "small loop" is also a rather obscure designation to someone outside of antenna theory (in other words, people dealing with low frequencies or AM radio are ONLY concerned with small loops. People dealing with ham radio HF/VHF or VHF direction finding are ONLY familiar with large/resonant loops.) Interferometrist (talk) 17:27, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I should have also mentioned a third distinct type of antenna which might be described as a "loop" : the halo antenna, which there already is an article about so it doesn't need to be considered (except as a link to the other loop antenna articles). Actually I'm even more sorry: a halo antenna isn't really a loop antenna because the conductor neccessarily has a break in it. So there is NO loop involved! But sure, include a link to it anyway ;-) Interferometrist (talk) 17:41, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Merging into loop antenna article

I am going to go ahead and merge this, if there is no objection. I have updated the loop antenna article and I believe it includes most of the important information in this article (except for references). Please take any material you see here which you think is important (and valid!) and update the other article with it. Then I will turn this into a redirect.
