I am curious as to the legend about the shadow. The tale of a drinking stone is shared with megalith's far and wide, but the shadow story isn't. Can you provide a reference for the source of this information please, as it doesn't appear in any of the quoted references. Maen Llia is a particular interest of mine. D.J.James in an article in volume XVIII (1978-79) of the periodical Brycheiniog (p19) states that the stone is supposed to visit the Neath River when it hears the cock crow. He references that tale as being listed by M. Phillips in the 1933 publication The Folklore of the Afan and Margam District. A BBC television programme Secret Britain: Water World of Wales (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02lr7sr) on aspects of the Brecon Beacons National Park filmed in 2014 and aired in 2015 explored the extension of the stone's shadow at the summer sunset down to the stream some tens of metres to its east. The shadow was seen by viewers to achieve that whereas a journey to the Neath (actually the Nedd Fechan would involve crossing nearby Fan Nedd into the next valley. cheers Geopersona (talk) 17:56, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it priceless that this BBC series thought that the stone was "secret" whereas this article says it's only 30 yards from a minor road and a tourist attraction! Mind you they did their best to keep it secret by not actually mentioning the name of the stone or anything about the location other than that it was in the Brecon Beacons area. Nevermind the presenters had a nice day out and got paid for it. (this text added by 86.140.127.11 on 14 Feb 2016)
