"At 14 she fled to the Ursuline convent in Bordeaux, she was there engaged by an acting troupe ..."
Should this not read:
"At 14 she fled from the Ursuline convent in Bordeaux, she was there engaged by an acting troupe ..."
(emphasis added.) — Robert Greer (talk) 15:35, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- I checked Londré's book (below). She doesn't mention the convent or Bordeaux, but says "... Mademoiselle Montansier, born Marguerite Brunot [sic], in 1730. At fifteen she went to Paris to live with her aunt, Madame Montansier, a vendor of toiletries and personal favors; she soon adopted both her aunt's name and her lifestyle. One of her protectors took her to Martinique for four years." So I think you are correct, but the information in the article is incomplete as it stands and difficult to merge with Londré who, besides misspelling her surname, also omits details. But it seems that when Brunet fled she went to Paris to be with her aunt, and it was there she joined the acting troupe. I have several other books that deal with Montansier's activities during the French Revolutionary period but are short on details of her earlier life.
