Development

[edit]

This is a tough article to develop, as the HD is so broad and scattered and as the more basic coverage of single-building NRHPs in the area, of neighborhoods in the area, of architects in the area, etc., is so little developed. One strategy might be to leave this article for a while and develop the 34 well-defined topics of the included separately listed NRHPs. And the articles about architects involved. And the various neighborhoods mentioned. And plan to come back later and make tables covering each of those. For now just say it is a huge, disorganized, smorgasbord of an HD.

One other way forward is to focus on developing (or finding others to develop) a good map of the district to include in the article (based on maps at end of nrhp doc-increase source).

It is not possible to make a good article out of this anytime soon, IMHO. doncram 22:10, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is long and complicated. The NRHP form is nearly 50 pages long, and then there is the later extension!
I was making up a list of the contributing properties that are also on the NRHP but I went to bed before I finished it. Then this morning I saw that you had done it. Thanks! Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 23:47, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, i copy-pasted then edited that list, hope it saved you some time still. Another difficulty is that the photos are not well-identified, even with the captions given in the second document. I was spoiled a while back by great documentation identifying just about every building photographed, by name and/or address, in historic districts in Natchez, Mississippi: Natchez On-Top-of-the-Hill Historic District, Natchez Bluffs and Under-the-Hill Historic District, Downriver Residential Historic District, and others. Someone had taken pics, and then I could figure out later exactly which house they were. --doncram 02:20, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I was in Macon in January at an event, and it got over early enough to go get some photos. I knew that College Street was in the HD so I walked a few blocks along it, shooting buildings on the north side, except one around the corner. I forgot about them for several months and then dumped to Commons using Vincura Uploader. I didn't bother to identify them (too little time). complexities and errors in the NRHP documents

[edit]

The second document is clear about deficiencies in the first document. But it has errors too. And both say complicated things that have to be deciphered. It may be worthwhile to track questions, issues, errors here. For example to explain later why we say things in contradiction to the documents.

Probably. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 02:42, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done I fixed that Neel Reid error. It's definitely him, he apprenticed with Curran R. Ellis in Macon. --Krelnik (talk) 18:13, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
