The introduction to this article says that "Appointments to this prominent office were usually fudai daimyō," and several lines later, that "Only high-ranking hatamoto were appointed to the position of machi-bugyo." Which is it? LordAmeth (talk) 15:05, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
- According to "Taiho-Jutsu: Law and Order in the Age of the Samurai" By Don Cunningham" page 39, Machi-bugyō-shō were high ranking hatamoto and according to "Life in Medieval and Early Modern Japan". By William E. Deal page 98, Edo Machi-bugyō were hatamoto.119.93.58.203 (talk) 01:41, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
