MacGregor versus Macgregor and McGregor

[edit]

The Scottish 'Mac' and 'Mc' are synomymous, for 'son of'. Whether the proper name following the 'Mac' is capitalised is a family preference (e.g. the North Queensland township of Mackay is not written as or pronounced as MacKay -- Mah-kye, not Mack-aye). This suburb of Brisbane is named for Sir William MacGregor (1846-1919), so should have two capital letters. -- Q8682 (talk) 00:07, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum. This is further supported by the Queensland Government (Department of Natural Resources and Mines) Queensland place names register.[1] -- Q8682 (talk) 00:11, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
